Too Far!

Descrição: The California Senate has gone too far with this new Bill which allows Landlords to dictate whether or not tenants can smoke in their rental units. My problem with this Bill is not so much about the right to smoke, but rather the potential for abuses by Landlords who can potentially evict rental control tenants in order to raise the rent. After all, if your landlord claims you have smoked in your apartment, how can you prove you haven't? Now before you leave comments about how cigarettes make the unit stink, that is what deposits are for. Change the carpet, paint the wall, it is under very rare instances that it is impossible to get the smell of cigarettes out after a place is vacated. Say what you will, I will not take the side of landlords on this one. It is simply too restrictive of personal freedoms... and NO, I am NOT a smoker. Thanks for reading.

Your video illustrates exactly what I've been trying to tell people; and judging from the comments I've been reading here and elsewhere...It's fallen on deaf ears. Our so called "fellow Americans" are missing the point.

All the smoke does not go out the window of the car, only part of the smoke is actually visible. It is reasonable to protect children from cigarette smoke in a car.

I understand your point about insurance, but do you really think people aren't going to smoke anyway? This law won't stop that. All it will do is give landlord's an excuse to evict people under rent control.

It cost more to own than to just rent. A lot of unforeseen expenses: Monthly home insurance, Property tax, maintenance, unexpected repairs and others. I agree with the No Smoking. If you want to smoke in your home than buy one, until than follow the lease you agreed to signed.

We will cover damages but not the loss of rent or the deductable. So owner is out of luck there. Owners can sue the tenants but most of the time tenants just take off, never to be found. And home owners have a bad rep that they all must have money because they own property. The truth is they don't, it's because they own property that all their money is invested in their home.

If you live in an apartment building and you smoke, the units around you can smell it and it's a health hazard. Also more house fires are cause by people who smoke: they don't put out the cig right, or hot embers burn carpets. I know this cause I work at an insurance office.

He's A smoker!!!

I'm not a smoker either, but I think this is completely fucked up. I think you're right; this is nothing but an invitation for screwing people over.

I'm a "radical nonsmoker" who thinks this bill is the most ridiculous over-stepping act of stupidity our state legislature had ever given us. Love your shirt.
